Grid vs Healbot

I have used both extensively, I made the switch to Grid around the time we killed Vashj and Kael'thas for our BT/Hyjal attunement. Healers tend to get pretty defensive about their heal UI, however the simple fact is that while Healbot has made huge efforts to emulate grid, grid is still the single most customizable addon in the game, which is what makes it so powerful for healers.

The importance of having a very customized and highly individualized heal set up for our level of play is pretty important. On hardmodes reaction time is make or break. If you dont Freedom that person who has Roots on Freya HM when seed bombs are down they are dead, if they are dead its a wipe. The purpose of this guide is to help you set up Grid so you can realize who has what and be able to react to it without out any fumble time at all. Fumble time on healers at our level wipes raids.


Grid

A modular raid frame, as mentioned you can do pretty much anything you want with this raid frame and set it up.

How to Customize Grid

First lets turn on the raid debuff add on. On your minimap there should be a quick click option for Grid, click on it and you should see something like this pop up on your screen.



Now lets click on the little red + buttong by Frames which opens up more options, choose Center Icon and then on the Window on the right just scroll down and highlight RaidDebuff.





Now I want to set Grid up to tell me if I have Sacred Shield or Beacon of Light on a person (instead of guessing or using a debuff bar). I am going to click on Status and select Auras You should see a window like this if you click on the Aura text, and not the drop down.




Now simply type in the name of the Buff you want grid to show in the buff second (or debuff, in the debuff section). Open the drop down menu for Auras and choose the one you just entered in. I recommend switching the colour to something you will notice, for this example I will enter Beacon of Light and set the colour to a bright blue.




We now go back to Frames Choose a corner icon of your liking, for this example I will choose Top Left and I will click on Buff: Beacon of Light, and Voila if you look at the below picture you can see the blue box on my grid that shows that beacon is up





You can go from there and set priorities, set it up to watch for tank abilities such as Last Stand so you can place say a GS or Hand of Sac on the tank as soon as his cooldown is off. The Raiddebuff add on will put giant graphic icons in the center similar to what you see when someone needs a cleanse, but raid specific. I can see who has roots and needs a Hand of Freedom on Freya three trees, who is constricted and needs a hand of protection on Yogg, or how many stacks of Impale a tank has on Gormok the Imapler, first boss in Northern Beasts. The faster your reaction time, the more sure you are of what is hitting a person and who that person is, the more aware you are of what buffs others are using to mitigate damage the more likely you are to succeed.

Clique

A mouse over click to cast add on that pairs exceptionally well with grid. Once installed it will add a new tab to your spellboook that will look like this:



Click on the tab to open up Clique set up, be aware you cannot open or edit Clique during combat. The first thing we are going to want to do is determine which frames clique works on. Having clique on your character window will frustrate you if you want to trade with people or leave party so lets solve that right now. Open Clique on the bottom tab there will be a couple options, choose Frames which will open a side tab pictured below. Now simply click off the frames you dont want clique to work on.




Now we need to set up our our casts. We are going to click on Custom down at the bottom which will open a new window. The new window will have options down the right hand side, select Cast Spell, where it says Set Click Binding you simply click with the mouse button that you wish to assign to the spell. Then underneath you write the spell as it appears in your Spell Book. So for this example I select Cast spell, set it to Left Click, and type Flash of Light. Now when I left click someone with my mouse on Grid it will cast Flash of Light on them.



For my Holy Paladin I have the following set up:

FoL = Left Click
HL = Right
Cleanse = Alt + Left Click
Salvation = Alt + Right Click
Holy Shock = Mouse scroll Wheel
Beacon = Alt + Scroll Wheel
Sacred Shield = Shift + Right
LoH = Shift + Left
Resurrect = Ctrl + Left
Button 5 = Target, and then I have Hand of Freedom, Sac, Protection ready to go.


Custom Macros on Clique

Say I want to set Salvation someone, but I also want it to announce so we dont have overlap. I would use the following macro:

To get this to work in Clique I simply do the same steps to set up new spells but I choose Custom Macro and I insert this in the box. Leave Macro Index blank or you will get an error message!!!

There is a lot more too it than that but there are a number of Youtube videos, class specific guides, and howtos to be found via google that are really really really informative and help you take a basic understanding and improve on it.

Even raid dps should be setting this up, it will help you see if you have Incinerate Flesh or Legion Flame. Help you see who has the snobold. Let you see raid health while killing the bomb adds on freya so you dont kill people etc. Ret paladins can set cleanse and blessing of freedom, salvation, dps can set assist, or dps spells set to focus target windows etc for kicks and interrupts. Frankly the sky is the limit.

So what are you guys all up too? I just installed Rift yesterday and its kind of fun like a mix between Warhammer/EQ I guess I'm too low to fully judge the game but so far fun just wish I could reunite with Riven GOD damn those were good times. My email is different now dagarb.898@gmail.com
